RECOMMENDED APPROACHING ROUTES FROM ABROAD
For those of you who like to drive on beautiful alpine roads instead of staying on the highways, here is a selection of alternative routes.
FROM SWITZERLAND_Route from Igis to Salzburg (420 km – 6 hours)
Exit the N13 highway at Igis to start the wide and scenic road to the worldwide-known city of Davos through the Wolfgangpass. The serious fun starts with the Flüelapass, then the Ofenpass which lead to the historical village of Müstair and its 8th century St. John Convent (B28). Route goes north through the Reschenpass where you’ll enter Austria (B180). After 110 km of highway, take the Zillertal exit to reach the Gerlospass (B165) and then the Pass Thurn (B161), leading to the famous ski resort of Kitzbühel, home of the terrible Hahnenkamm downhill ski race. The trip continus then in direction of St-Johann (B178) and eventually Berchtesgaden on the fast and twisty ’Deutsche Ferienroute’ (B305).
FROM GERMANY_Route from Munich (180 km – 3 hours)
Exit the highway (A8) at Weyarn and continue on the B307 ‘Deutsche Alpenstrasse’ (be careful with Police radars…). Enter Austria and continue on the B172, becoming after Kössen B305 on German soil again (Deutsche Alpenstraße). Last part to Berchtesgaden still on the fast and twisty ’Deutsche Ferienroute’ (B305).
FROM GERMANY_Route from Kempten to Salzburg (330 km – 5 hours)
Continue south in the direction of the Fernpass and its twisty yet rolling road (B179). From Telfs, see the indications from the route from Switzerland.
FROM ITALY_Route from Bolzano (280 km – 5 hours)
Continue on the twisty and scenic A22 highway, exit at Klausen to start the heaven trip on the Dolomites passes: Passo Gardena and Falzarego leading to Cortina d’Ampezzo, then heading north to Dobiacco. After entering Austria on the B100, continue on the B107 which leads to the fast and spectacular (toll) road of the Grossglockner: 48 km of dream road which reach an altitude of 2.504 m! Still go north on the fast and scenic B311 and continue the trip from Lofer following the indications from above.
